ABSTRACT:

In this talk, we will provide an overview of  technology evolution towards 4G. We also outline candidate technologies for 4G wireless standard. We
will identify key research issues that need to be addressed to improve
spectral efficiency in wireless networks for improved data rate and
Quality of Service (QoS). We then focus on cross layer techniques for
QoS and present a novel approach to scheduling in wireless networks.

About the Speaker:

Abhay Karandikar earned his M.Tech. and Ph.D degrees in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1988 and 1994, respectively.

He is currently Professor of Electrical Engineering at IIT Bombay. He has started many technology development projects, including the one on Open Source MPLS and Linux based MPLS emulator.
He co-founded the venture backed company Eisodus Networks. He is currently leading TTSL-IIT Bombay Center for Excellence in Telecom. He is also Head of Computer Center, IIT Bombay.

His research group at IIT Bombay is currently focused on resource allocation in wireless networks. He has recently made several contributions to  IEEE 802.1 and 802.16m WiMAX standard.

Dr. Karandikar was a recipient of the Best Teacher Award at IIT Bombay in 2005-06 which is awarded on 5 years’ student course evaluation feedback.
