Faculty openings in LNMIIT Jaipur for people with a Master’s
degree in Engineering
In general, LNMIIT Jaipur recruits faculty with a PhD degree only, but in some cases
where the student has an excellent academic record as well as a very good research
record and the masters degree is from a top class institution, we have made an exception.
This exception is made only for engineering disciplines, and not in natural sciences
or humanities and social sciences.
For students with master's degrees, we have two positions. One is called Lecturer
, and the other is LNM Fellow. The motivations for these two positions are
different.
Lectureris meant for those who are reasonably sure that they want to be in
academics as a career. You join the Institute as a lecturer, and you join the PhD
program soon thereafter. Since the person will be doing research towards PhD, we
will normally ask him/her to teach only one course per semester (up to 10 contact
hours per week. This included laboratory class(es) and / or tutorial classes). They
can register for PhD in another Institute, and we will give some time off to visit
that Institute to pursue PhD. Such persons are offered a compensation package in
the range of about Rs. 6.0 lakhs to Rs. 7.0 lakhs (plus on-campus accommodation,
if available, otherwise an additional compensation of up to 20%).
LNM Fellow is meant for those who are reasonably sure that they want to have
a corporate career. However, they want to experience the excitement of teaching
for some time. This position has come about, because a large number of people who
have huge experience in industry ask us for an opportunity to teach at least for
one semester, as this is one experience they have not had in their lives, and they
really feel that they should have done this while they were younger. Because the
focus here is to enjoy the experience of teaching, we expect them to teach two courses
in a semester (up to 12 contact hours per week including the laboratory classes
and / or tutorials) And to ensure that these people will be able to do justice with
two courses, we expect them to have excellent academic credentials. The compensation
package is higher, and we offer about Rs. 8.0 lakhs (plus on-campus accommodation,
if available, otherwise an additional compensation of up to 20%).
Since we do not wish to encourage teaching-only faculty for long, the LNM Fellow
position is for a period of no more than 2 years. If they start liking academia
while being LNM Fellows, they must then join a PhD program. If they join the PhD
program, we will reduce the teaching load, and support them in whatever way possible
to do their PhD.
To summarize, the difference between Lecturer and LNM Fellow is as follows: A lecturer
is normally expected to teach one course in the 10 contact hours, and LNM Fellows
are expected to teach two courses in each semester in 12 contact hours. Lecturers
are expected to pursue their PhD, and contribute more towards research. Research
expectation from LNM Fellows is primarily in terms of guiding final year BTech Projects.
Lecturer position can be for a longer period, depends on continued progress in PhD
and research output in general. LNM Fellow position is for a maximum of two years.
LNM Fellow position is for students with exceptionally good academic record. The
salary offering for a Lecturer is in the range of about Rs. 6.0 lakhs to Rs. 7.0
lakhs per annum, while the salary offering for an LNM Fellow is about Rs. 8 lakhs
per annum. Besides we either provide on-campus accommodation, if available, or give
an additional compensation of up to 20%.
If any student about to graduate or recently graduated is interested in these opportunities,
they should send their CV directly to Director LNMIIT at director@lnmiit.ac.in
